Baptism Preparation Guidelines

Preparation Classes

Baptism Preparation classes are typically held once a month on Thursday evenings. Parents and Godparents are required to attend prior to a child’s Baptism.

Godparents

Godparents must be practicing Catholics and in good standing with the Catholic Church. Therefore, we need the following:

  • Copies of his/her Baptism Certificate with notation of First Communion and Confirmation
  • A letter from his/her pastor stating that he/she is in good standing and active in their parish church.
  • Written proof stating he/she has been to a Baptismal Preparation Class
  • Godparents are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class

There must be a Godparent: only a Catholic can be a Godparent sponsoring a child into the Catholic Church. However, a non-Catholic who is a baptized Christian can be a “Christian witness.” (Note: only the names of Godparents are included in the church’s official sacramental records.)

Christian witnesses need to provide the following:

  • Proof of Baptism.
  • Letter from his/her pastor stating they are in good standing and active in his/her church.

These papers must be submitted no later than two weeks prior to the child’s baptism.

Please fill out the Baptism Registration Form or contact the parish office at (318) 325-7549 to schedule your Baptismal Preparation Class and Baptism.
